Tour of Naples

Sightseeing Naples City Guide

Not going to lie Naples wasn’t my favorite destination. But I was still able to put together a full Naples City Guide for you to get the most out of your trip.

The city was very dirty, trash everywhere, too many people crammed into the city, you have to be EXTREMELY aware of pickpockets, etc. However, there are some positives to focus on if you are venturing to Naples.

Before you travel the city make sure to download the area on your Maps app and star places you want to visit. This way when you turn your location on you can find your way to each site with ease. This uses no data and will help you get around the city if you chose not to take a guided tour and wander about on your own.

  1. Pizza
  2. Gelato
  3. Mt. Vesuvius
  4. Transportation + Shopping
  5. Castles
  6. Pompeii
  7. Capri

Pizza

Pizza originated in Naples and the Margherita Pizza is actually named after the Queen Consort of Italy Margherita of Savoy. This should be #1 on your to-do list!!! Antica Pizzeria Dell’ Angelo was amazing and is near the water if you wanted to eat somewhere in short walking distance to the shoreline.

Gelato

Gay Odin is one of the best places to find gelato in Naples! I actually tried 2 different shops while here and Gay Odin was the best hands down. There are several locations and the one I ventured to was on a small side street. There was a long line of people waiting to get in but it was worth the wait.

Budget Travel

Views of Mt. Vesuvius and the Mediterranean Sea.

Grab a bottle of wine and sit on the docks and watch the sunset on the water. The city and sea are beautiful contrasts. From hustle and bustle to calm and serene sitting and watching the waves and Mt. Vesuvius in the distance was my favorite part.

Transportation and Shopping

Naples has an easy transportation system and easy to walk around the city. The Metro is really easy to use and day pass tickets are available inside each stop. Naples has a huge and beautiful shopping mall in the center of the city. The market is also great to pick up a souvenir but just be aware of your surroundings for pickpockets.

Castles

There are three castles in Naples and they all cost a small entry fee. The picture below is of Castle Nuovo. Castle Sant’Elmo can be seen on a hilltop on the outside of the city which is shown in a picture at the top of the post. Ovo Castle is smaller and in short walking distance to Castle Nuovo.

Pompeii

The National Archeological Museum of Naples is where the artifacts and remains uncovered from Pompeii are located. If you want to take a bus or tour to Pompeii you can still visit the ruin city itself. The museum ticket price is €12 and every first Sunday of the month entry is free. Here is the link for the museum.

Budget Travel

Capri

If you are traveling to Capri from the north, then Naples is your stop to change transportation. You can take a ferry to Capri from Naples and the most cost-effective resource is the Metro. From the train station head to Molo Beverello for €1 and then a free connecting shuttle to Calatta Porta di Massa which has a direct ferry to Capri. Here is a link on how to get to Capri, Sorrento and other cities on the Amalfi Coast from Naples.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy on my Naples City Guide. Whether it’s just a day trip or overnight stay. Explore it for yourself and see what you think.
