Explore Central Texas With The Family

Texas is such a large state and has a wide variety of scenery and places to visit. Central Texas has plenty to see and do!

Wimberly

Jacob’s Well is a natural well/spring that goes deep below. Divers have explored caves and crevices below making the exploration interesting! It’s about a 20-minute drive outside of town. Hiking is free around the area but if you want to swim there is a fee.

The Blue Hole is another beautiful nature adventure near Wimberly. You have to make a reservation to swim and the money goes to preserving the area and making sure that it stays clean and in its natural state.

Gruene

Gruene Hall is the oldest country dance hall in Texas. Country legends like George Strait have started out playing here.

Gruene has a really cute town that has plenty of small shops and eateries to dine at.

Bastrop

Bastrop has some neat shops, restaurants, and this park that I stumbled across on my pitstop there. There are kayaks, walking paths, and some great views of the river!

Hondo

I came across a beautiful sunflower field outside of Hondo! This was during the summer so it may depend on the season if they are there and how tall. These were HUGE!!! As you can see they were taller than I am and I’m a short 5’2″ haha.

Concan

The Frio River is in Concan and my favorite to float. If you aren’t from Texas then you might not know that floating the river is a big-time summer activity. The Guadalupe and Frio Rivers are the most popular to float. You get a big float, maybe cooler float to keep your drinks/snacks cold, and usually rent a hotel or cabin to stay in. It’s a nice relaxing good time summer activity. The Guadalupe is fun if you are wanting to have a lot to drink and don’t mind the crowds. The Frio is more family friendly but depending on the water level may or may not be a good float. It was low when I visited but the area I was in was still deep enough to swim and relax without a strong current to worry about.

Texas is a VERY diverse state with plenty to see and do. Central Texas especially has various amazing natural gems to explore. Stay tuned for more blog posts about my travels. Follow my blog to get updates on new destinations and travel tips!
