Best Airline For Flights Abroad

When you are trusting a company to take you across the pond and travel abroad it can be nerve racking. Which one do I pick? Do I know anyone that has flown these airlines before? Are they safe? So many questions run through your mind in picking a flight, price included. Lucky for me I’ve flown several different international airlines and can give you some insights.

Eva Air

Flew from LA to Bangkok and the flight was one of my favorites! I felt like I had plenty of space in Economy, the food was actually good, and I didn’t feel like I was flying in a germ fest (clean-ish air). I’m gluten free/Vegan and made arrangements on their app ahead of time. This way it was already prepared and all I had to do was enjoy the flight/meal.

It was a roasted cauliflower with rice and vegetables but the flavor was great. Although I was also half awake eating it because my flight took off at midnight so I was eating with one eye open haha.

British Airways

Didn’t get a chance to reserve my meal on the app because I didn’t have great Wifi in Bali which is where I was coming from. BUT the staff was really great and managed to gather something up for me on a tray. Felt clean, safe, and I had an entire row to myself on my 14 hour flight Singapore-London.

It depends on the airliner what kind of experience you have. I was on an older but still safe plane London-Houston and there was barely any space. I was also sandwiched in between two larger dudes trying to watch Mama Mia 2 so there’s that.

American Airlines

Average, safe, not the best customer service but if you have an overnight flight you won’t need much. I have had issues with them changing flight times last minute and not notifying me. So just make sure to keep checking flight times on the app and screens.

Food isn’t the best but you can also bring snacks for the flight to hold you over if airplane food really doesn’t do it for ya.

Use Points To Upgrade

With all of these flights to choose from the easiest way to get the most out of your travels is with points. I use the Chase Sapphire Preferred Travel Card to gain points and upgrade on flights abroad. Within the first 3 months you could earn up to 60,000 points which is amazing and could cover a round trip easily! For more info check out the Chase Sapphire Card to start earning points!

Air Asia

Traveling through Southeast Asia I mainly flew Air Asia for all of the short distances. Usually they put you on a bus that takes you to the plane and board on the tarmac with stairs leading up to the doors. Seats are pretty small but the planes I took are meant for domestic flights.

Not a lot of luggage room for those using just a carry on. I had two carry on bags and they didn’t make me pay extra or check one. Some airlines will make you check one but just make sure to read their policies.

Malaysia Airlines

Flew from Cambodia to Indonesia on two separate flights connecting in Kuala Lumpur and both were great. Had the same ability to have a meal prepared ahead of time for special dietary restrictions. Download their app and pick your seat, food, and anything else you prefer.

I was nervous about taking this airline since that plane crash happened a couple years ago but I felt safe the entire time and they were actually one of my favorites in the area to fly with.

Vueling Airlines

One of the best flights I had ever taken! If you’re flying domestic around Europe I had a great experience with Vueling. It was only 36 Euros to fly from Rome to Vienna and I checked 2 bags no extra cost, plus carry on. My luggage did have some scratches on it but that’s not anything surprising or new. Now I know why they wrap the bags in that cellophane material in the airport to protect your bags!

The flight was smooth, they played music over the intercom, airplanes can usually sound loud but this one was quiet and felt clean which is rare. Definitely worth it for the price and for 36 Euros you would think I was down with the luggage but it was a normal seat!

All of the airlines that are in this review have apps to download and make arrangements for the best flight experience. Just note that the Basic Economy Fares that most airlines are implementing have HEAVY restrictions and with all of the add ons don’t always end up being the cheapest option.

My top three criteria that I look for in choosing a flight is bag allowance, price, and safety! There are many airlines out there and this review is simply to let you know my experience flying with each. Make sure that you do your research on flights by using Hopper,  Skyscanner, and Expedia to get the best deals!
