Castle Munich Germany

Visit The Real Cinderella Castle Tour

For those of you who have saved the dreamy castle pictures on Pinterest, this one is for you! Located outside of Munich lies some of the most beautiful and enchanting castles I have come across. I have traveled to many countries and seen plenty of castles, but the creator of the ones on this tour is all about the whimsical and fairytale feeling you experience. Take the real Cinderella Castle Tour in Munich Germany!

On the Tour:

  1. Neuschwanstein Castle
  2. Oberammergau
  3. Palace Linderhof

This was not cheap but I planned for it in my budget. If I remember correctly it was around €70 a person which included transportation, guided tours of each location, a traditional Bavarian beer, tickets to both the castle and palace, and snacks!

Munich Germany Castles

Neuschwanstein Castle

I was and am especially in love with the Neuschwanstein Castle which is what Disney based his Cinderella castle on. Seeing it in person was a bigger fairy tale than I had imagined. Majority of the walls in each room are dedicated to actual fairy tales such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Tristan and Isolde, Sleeping Beauty, etc. Each room has a different theme and quality to it.

Some of the best views can be seen from Neuschwanstein! You can take a look outside on one of the balconies to see the mountains, lake, and neighboring castle Hohenschwangau. That castle isn’t on the tour since it is still somewhat in use by the royal family who is allowed to reside within it. They aren’t a ruling royal family, just descendants of the monarchy and can only stay in certain castles that weren’t given to the people of Germany.

In order to get the famous side picture of the castle, there is a pathway to Mary’s Bridge which can get you this vantage point. The bridge was closed when I visited, but you could still walk up to it and take a picture without walking across. This being why it’s called the Cinderella Castle Tour Guide!

Oberammergau

Also on the Cinderella Castle Tour, you will head over to the town of Oberammergau. This small town also has a fairy tale quality to it seeing as their houses and building. The building all depict different fairytale stories.

Oberammergau is not just famous for its charming esthetic but for making elaborate clocks!  They have so many on display and for sale in town. It really is a beautiful and unique gem to visit in Germany.

Munich Day Trips

Palace Linderhof

From Oberammergau, the tour heads to Palace Linderhof. Also built by King Ludwig II and even though it’s a smaller structure, the detail and beauty are magnificent. This is where he spent most of his time and had several smaller lodging areas on the grounds. He was obsessed with swans and kept them on the property which they still have in the pond today.

Each castle on the tour was built by King Ludwig and had a different aesthetic to each of them. I can tell you without a doubt that you won’t be disappointed to go on this tour. It really is a fairy tale to see in person. For those on a budget save for this because it’s worth seeing up close!
