Myths And Misconceptions About Travel

Myths and misconceptions about travel often stop people from exploring their bucket list destinations. There are so many beautiful and unique lessons to learn from travel. When you believe every negative thing on the news it can cloud the good that’s also out there. I will go through and spill the tea on the most popular myths and misconceptions about travel in this post!

Travel Is Expensive

Yes, travel CAN be expensive if you don’t know where to look, when to buy, and ways around it. When you book the “all inclusive” resorts that is all inclusive to your bank account. There are ways to cut costs on Hotels, Rental Cars, Flights, Transportation, Activities, and more. All without having to book that tourist trap of a “deal”.

It’s Not Safe To Travel Alone

Is it really safe anywhere? No. You could get mugged in your own hometown. With that being said there are ways to take precautions on your next vacation.

  1. Do your research
  2. Be aware of your surroundings
  3. Make sure our bags are protected

Research the destination you are traveling to, find the best areas to stay, learn how to get around the city, etc. The more you educate yourself the better! Be aware of your surrounding to make sure you aren’t a walking target with that tourist fanny pack, map, and camera. You might want to take your fancy camera on vacay but just know that it is an automatic sign on your forehead that you aren’t from around there. Lastly, you can keep a small lock on your bags to protect them from theft.

You Get Lonely On Solo Travel

Nope! Solo travel actually ends up being quite the opposite. You meet so many new people on your trip and make connections that you can do activities with. There’s also tours available to be with a group of people instead of by yourself. Another option is to stay in a hostel which has a more community type feel. For more on Hostels check out my post on Solo Travel.

Scams Are Everywhere

Tourist traps are real my friend! Be aware that people will try to scam you out of your money. This goes along with the research bit. Look at reviews, ratings, and you can also ask locals for their advice. This sounds scary but it’s also really normal and can happen anywhere so don’t be turned off by this.

International Phone Plans Are A Must

Ugh No! This is one of the biggest myths and misconceptions about travel. They are not necessary and you waste SO MUCH MONEY on a phone plan that is outdated now. With wifi apps being able to text, call, video chat, you don’t need them. There is wifi everywhere now and you can also get a wifi hotspot to keep with you at all times that is cheaper. SkyRoam has a variety of hotspot options.

They are a well reviewed, loved, and reliable company to go with. If you want to take the wifi with you anywhere all you need to do is turn on their device and it auto-connects to your phone and up to 9 other devices. You can buy a day pass if you don’t travel too often or a monthly subscription for the globe trotter. Check them out!

Budget travel is my favorite to talk about because it means I get to help others travel more often! You don’t have to break the bank to go on your dream destination. With knowing the right tips of where to look, book, and when to buy you can save your bank account the stress and go on a cheap vacation.
