Vegan Food Guide To Phnom Penh

Being Vegan can be difficult to eat out. Especially if you don’t know where to look. I’ve been gluten-free for 8 years now and Vegan for almost 2 years. You get used to looking at labels and menus but it makes life easier when you don’t have to hunt for a restaurant. There are a few  tips to finding a Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten-Free Restaurant not just in Phnom Penh, but anywhere.

Happy Cow

What the heck is a Happy Cow? Well it’s an app! There is a free version and you can put in any city or turn your location on and it will give you restaurants in the area. On the free version you can’t save places but you can open it in Maps and save them there. It’s definitely made life easier and is a trustworthy source to rely on for food choices.

Happy Cow doesn’t just have restaurants it can give recommendations on grocery stores with healthy lifestyle options as well if you need to pick something up.

Night Market

Phnom Penh has a great Night Market with clothes, accessories, live music, and food vendors. Most of the vendors are NOT Vegan but the ones that do provide that are amazing! I found some tofu, veggie skewers, coconut ice cream, and plenty of potato puff balls to snack on. If you are just vegan you will have an easier time because a lot of the wraps and side dishes have gluten but are vegan. Sit on the floor as a community and enjoy some local cuisine. It’s a perfect experience if you want to see how the locals spend their time and interact.

Jaan’s

Jaan’s Restaurant is actually on the corner across from the Night Market. There are a few things on the menu for Vegan/Vegetarian/GF people. My absolute FAVORITE thing on the menu is the Wok-Fried Tofu with tomatoes, onions, green beans, and rice. It doesn’t sound like much but the sauce is what makes the dish!

Oh geez now I’m hungry haha

The price is reasonable, staff is very nice, and great wi-fi if you are looking for a place to chill in the city.

Dosa

I had never tried Dosa before and didn’t really know what it was but I can say I liked it after eating at Masala Dosa Street Kitchen. Dosa is a type of pancake or crepe from Indian cuisine that is made from rice and black gram. The inside is just different vegetables and it comes with a few traditional sauces.

I wasn’t too sure I would be full but I was stuffed leaving there! Hit the spot just right.

Phnom Penh has plenty of places to explore and eat Vegan at. These are just my favorites I was able to experience. If you have a chance to visit the city make sure to star these locations on the map because you won’t regret it!
