How To Live A Digital Nomad Lifestyle

Scrolling on Instagram or any social media platform and you see beautiful travel photos from people who are digital nomads. What even is a digital nomad? How have they turned it into a career? Is it possible for me to do that? Being a digital nomad definitely requires some hard work, dedication, and a dream that really is bigger than just yourself.

What is a Digital Nomad? 

A person or couple that works online, from their phone/laptop and lives anywhere and everywhere in the world. In order to have that location independence, you have to build up a following on any social media, blog, website, Youtube, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Because of that following people are able to leverage it and work with hotels, brands, and companies that align with their niche and purpose. There are many perks to being a digital nomad one of them is the hotel bit. You can work with hotels to promote them and have your accommodations comped.

Building the following takes time and you need a reason for starting other than money. Money will come as a result but it can’t be the reason why you start. It won’t be able to sustain your drive and enjoyment. Usually it’s being location independent and traveling, time freedom to do whatever you want, be your own boss, spend more time with family/friends, and the list is endless.

How Can You Make It A Career?

If you build an engaged audience that will follow you anywhere you can keep the train going and make it a career. Because it’s not about what you GET to do, but what you can do for OTHERS. That last part is the most important because without an audience you don’t have a business.

I’ve talked in previous posts about connecting with people on a genuine level.  So many try to sell people stuff just to sell. When you work online you see so many people just chucking products at you without transparency and authenticity. For me if I recommended something and I’m an affiliate (get a commission) then I have used that product/service, love it, and then in turn would relay that message. There are affiliate product links in a lot of my posts but I personally use those items or services and that’s why I wanted to work with them. That’s how people online make money is through affiliate offers and or if they make their own products. The most common that I see are people selling Instagram Presets or Digital product.

How Can I Become A Digital Nomad? 

It takes time and there are A LOT of steps to get there. It’s an entirely new world and I had so much and still have so much to learn. For a time I was struggling to figure it all out on my own. I was constantly on Google searching for the answers to blogging, social media, and how I could make it all work for me. Through my searching I came across Summit Social Academy. I have learned so much about Instagram and facebook, what to do/what not to do, blogging tips and tricks, and I am now a contributor for them and made content on how to use Pinterest for your business. It’s not just one person telling you what you should do. They have taken people that are succeeding in each area of the online space and given training based on their knowledge. I have had the pleasure to actually meet some of our online community in person and travel with them. My business wouldn’t be here without them and their support. Being a digital nomad doesn’t have to be a lonely affair but one filled with people all over the world that have your back. It’s so much easier to succeed when you have people in your corner that believe in you!
