Sightsee Phuket On A Budget

Phuket is a beautiful city and one on many travel lists! Activities can vary based on what kind of experience you want but listed below are the top 6 activities to do in Phuket on a budget. From Beaches, Temples, Viewpoints, and more! If you are thinking of visiting Phuket then you need to think about seeing these beautiful sights.

Phuket isn’t cheap so definitely be prepared to spend on transportation if you aren’t comfortable renting a motorbike. Renting a Motorbike is cheaper around 220/250 Baht for the entire day but you run the risk of getting a fine by the police if you look like a tourist. Just wear a helmet, don’t drink and drive, and chances are you should be ok. Explore all of your options to sightseeing Phuket on a budget.

Karon Beach

Even with tourists, Karon Beach is more of a low key area to stay and explore. Great for families and those that don’t want to stay in a packed area but still have tourist amenities. Plenty of restaurants, bars, shops, and hotels that are right across the street from the beach. My favorite of the 3 I recommend, but I also wasn’t looking to be in a busy area.

I stayed at an Air BnB Lap Roi Beachfront Hotel in Karon and it was the perfect location. It also goes a long way that they gave you a beach towel for each day in addition to the shower towel. Not every place that I have stayed gives you the same amenities and it’s truly the small things that make a difference.

Patong Beach

Crowded and packed with tourists along the beach and in town. If you are wanting more of a party scene then Patong Beach is for you! TONS of restaurants, shops, vendors, bars, people, hostels, and hotels. Patong beach is a great area if that’s what you’re looking for. Both areas have cheap accommodations.

Kata Beach

Kata is a great town and I would say is in between Karon and Patong on a scale of packed to chill. It’s a happy medium. There are a good amount of shops etc, and it didn’t look too crowded. More hustle and bustle than Karon but not as packed as Patong. Great beach as well and it’s close to the viewpoint of 3 beaches.

The best part about hitting all of the beaches is that they are free! Which means that they are the top sightseeing locations for Phuket on a budget.

Karon/Kata Viewpoint

I was determined to see the viewpoint in my stay in Phuket! Every tuk-tuk and taxi I found wanted 700 Baht just to go there and back. I’m glad I didn’t give up because I ended up walking in between Karon and Kata and found a taxi minivan for the right price.

I went to the Viewpoint, Big Buddha, and Wat Chaithraram for 700 Baht and back to Karon beach where I was staying!! I was so pleased with my find! It twas a good day! The Viewpoint doesn’t have any fee and you can take pictures from three different levels of the structure. If you want some amazing pictures then I say GO FOR IT!

Big Buddha

Beautifully carved white statue of Buddha sits on the top of a hill and overlooks the entire city. You can see it from Karon beach sitting up on the hill but man the views from up top are gorgeous! Not only is the statue beautiful but seeing the city and port from above is truly worth it. It’s FREE to enter and they hand out shawls for those that need to cover shoulders and knees. *I wouldn’t recommend taking a motorbike here because the hills are steep, lots of potholes, racing cars, and sometimes stop-start traffic.

Wat Chaithararam

Definitely worth the trip and not too far from Big Buddha on the way back to town. The temple is one of a kind and in the main building it’s three stories high with an outlook to the city. Free to enter, just make sure to bring something to cover shoulders and knees. My driver said I can’t come to Phuket without seeing it’s most beautiful temple. He took me here without any extra charge. Needless to say, I found the best taxi driver ever!

Sightseeing Phuket can get expensive so don’t be afraid to negotiate price and get it cheaper. I also didn’t ask to go to the other places until I got back in the car at the viewpoint and was closer to the other sights. Think on your feet and you’ll be fine!
